New News:

 

AP Tests:  Advanced Placement tests are on sale in the finance office or on the school's webstore.  Sales end TODAY, no exceptions. Purchase forms can be picked up in the Main Office, the Finance Office, or in room 825.

 

Extended School Services (ESS) Job Fair!  TODAY from 2 - 5 pm at 4750 Date Avenue, La Mesa, CA 91942.  They are looking for ESS Recreation Attendants. You must have completed 10th grade to apply for this job.  If available, please bring a resume and your unofficial transcript. The application is available online at http://agency.governmentjobs.com/lmsvsd/default.cfm.

 

JV Football Meeting:  Any freshman interested in playing JV football next year please come to a mandatory meeting on Wednesday, April 18th at lunch in room 1461. See Coach Karlo if you have any questions.

 

Blessed with a Dress:  Any girl from the East County community can come get a formal dress for free for any formal event.  Pick from hundreds of gently used dresses, shoes and jewelry. This event is taking place on April 21st from 10 am - 2 pm at the Foothills Church (365 W. Bradley Avenue, El Cajon, CA 92020, Multipurpose Rm).  Call ahead if you are coming, 619-442-7728.

 

Hey Foothillers!!!  CAASPP testing begins next Tuesday, April 17th!!  Make sure you check the master lists posted in junior English classrooms for your testing day room assignment.  Ask your English teacher if you do not know your assigned room. Be sure to bring your earbuds and your charged Chromebook. The library will be closed from April 17th through April 27th, except for Chromebook issues.

 

Powderpuff:  Are you ready for powderpuff? Pick up your packets in the ASB room to be a player, coach, or cheerleader! They are due next friday so make sure you get your packet soon!

 

Attention Seniors:  Prom is May 26th. Prom bids go on sale Monday, April 16th. All students attending Prom must have the Clearance form signed off before purchasing their bid. Clearance forms and Guest Passes will be available Monday April 16th in the Main Office, Library and Finance Office. All fines must be cleared before your Prom bid may be purchased. Please take care of any fines immediately.

Foothillers:  The Natural High Annual Video and Essay Contest is on!  Every year Natural High provides a platform for youth to tell their brilliant and moving stories about what motivates them to choose a natural high over drugs and alcohol.  Contest runs from April 3rd to May 14th. Four winners will receive a $250 grant to pursue their natural high. Two grand prize winners will be selected to receive $500 to pursue their natural high.  See Karin Dann in the Counseling Office for details.

 

Operation Fairy Godmother:  Their goal is to make sure that every girl who wants to attend her prom has a dress that she can be proud of. They have hundreds of dresses for free.  To choose a dress bring your high school ID to the La Mesa First United Methodist Church (4690 Palm Avenue, La Mesa) on April 21st from 10 am to 4 pm. The Royal Blue Regiments 23rd Annual Desert Show is on April 27th!!!  Tickets are $10 at the door. There is an unlimited dessert bar for everyone there. It is from 6:30 - 9 pm(?) in the Old Gym. There will be performances from our band, orchestra and colorguard.

 

Seniors!!! Have you been involved in leadership positions here at Grossmont? PRIDE, ASB, G-Crew, Sports Captain, or clubs? Come to the ASB room to get an application for a leadership cord! They are due to Mr. Hersch by 4/27 at lunch!

 

Hey Hillers! Think you have what it takes to be the best act? Club Impact presents Grossmont's Got Talent on April 24th, 2018.  All proceeds will go to the Grossmont Child Development Center. Sign ups are in the Choir Room and are due April 20th. Can't wait to see you there!

All returning students: Have you heard? Our Theatre Arts department is now offering a brand new UC/State System approved Honors Theatre Conservatory course next year! If you love performing, going on field trips to see shows, and possibly earning UC/State System Honors credit, come see Ms. Ecker in rm 615 at break for more information about our theatre program and to sign up for an audition time slot. Break a leg!

GHS Girls:  Would you like to become more powerful and confident in the face of fear?  The Girls Rock Club invites you to join us on a fieldtrip to the Fearless Girls Empowerment Conference at the Pendry Hotel downtown on Saturday, April 21st, hosted by Geena the Latina from Channel 93.3.  This free event includes breakfast, lunch, workshops, giveaways, entertainment and inspirational speakers. Space is limited. Pick up a flyer and permission slip in the counseling office today!

2018-2019 Choir Auditions!  Hey Foothillers, want to earn AP and Honors Credit with a performing arts class?  Do you want to join in on fun field trips like Disneyland and a trip to Italy? Join the family and audition for the award winning 2018-2019 Grossmont High School Vocal Music Department and Red Robe Choir.  Next year's choir European concert tour is to Italy, including Venice, Florence, Rome, and Vatican, and you don't want to miss out! Never sang before? No problem. No experience necessary to enroll in honors and AP credit.  Sign up for an informal audition time on Ms. Morrison's door, room 625. See you there!
